The Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP) is a voluntary regulatory system, created and maintained by the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS).

The SRP promotes transparency, accountability and professionalism among psychologists trained to deliver direct psychological services to patients and clients. Only psychologists who have applied postgraduate degrees are eligible for SRP registration.

 The SRP has two aims:

  1. To protect users of psychological services, and 
  2. To advance the professional standards of practitioner psychologists.

Benefits

The practice of psychology is not regulated by the government in Singapore.  SRP registration is not mandatory for practice in Singapore. Only psychologists who have postgraduate applied psychology degrees are eligible for SRP registration.SPS is working with relevant stakeholders to work towards regulation of Psychologists in Singapore. Employers and members of the public are increasingly recognizing the importance of receiving services from a Registered Psychologist.

The SRP registration has the following benefits:

  • Professional recognition – Registration enables you to use the title “Registered Psychologist (Singapore)”.  Your Registered Psychologist status affirms that you have achieved the required professional qualifications to practise in accordance with the SPS Code of Ethics. 
  • Employment opportunities – Employers hire registered psychologists.  Medical and allied health professionals seek referrals from Registered psychologists listed on the Directory of SPS Members. 
  • Professional development – Registered psychologists can participate in professional development activities at reduced rates. 
  • Networking opportunities – Registered psychologists can network with fellow psychologists in different domains of psychology specializations.
  • Professional Indemnity – Registered psychologists may purchase the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance. For details, please refer to the FAQ below. New SRP applicants may indicate their interest on their application form. SRP members may choose to purchase it if they had not done so previously by writing to secretariat@singaporepsychologicalsociety.org

Eligibility

To register with the SRP, applicants must meet either

  • Criterion 1 and 2A, or
  • Criterion 1 and 2B 

Have a Current SPS Full Membership

  • You need to have SPS Full Membership before your SRP application would be reviewed.
  • You can submit your SPS and SRP applications at the same time.
  • Your SPS application will be processed first.
  • After you receive SPS Full Membership, your SRP application would then be reviewed.

You must have completed a
(i) Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree at a Master or Doctoral Level that enables you to practice as a Psychologist. This program may not offer training in an area of Specialization in applied psychology or could be a part of a program that offers or enables one to pursue further training in a particular area of specialization in applied psychology.
(ii) Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree at a Master or Doctoral Level and is qualified to practice in an area of Specialization. i.e., Clinical, Counselling, Educational/School, Forensic, Clinical Health, Neuropsychology, Industrial-Organizational/Occupational, or Sports and Exercise Psychology.

Your postgraduate applied psychology degree should minimally be a 2-year full-time programme or equivalent, or part-time equivalent that includes

  • Relevant coursework including psychological assessment, psychological testing, intervention, and ethics;
  • Supervised practicum in several approved settings during candidature on postgraduate applied psychology degree; and
  • Research dissertation / thesis

The table below shows the required number of practicum hours based on the year of matriculation for your Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree.

* Client Contact includes Direct Contact ( e.g., i.e., face to face and virtual sessions (former being at least 60%)) with clients

* Client contact includes direct contact with significant others of client

* Client contact DOES NOT include professionals working with same client.

** 50% of supervision hours must be Individual Supervision.

* Other Hours can include report writing, research and activities relevant to the client, case management related activity

For programmes that do not fulfil the above requirements, a top-up of additional practicum hours post-programme is required. Top-up of additional practicum hours post-programme are after the completion of the following:
Relevant coursework including psychological assessment, psychological testing, intervention, and ethics; Supervised practicum in several approved settings during candidature on postgraduate applied psychology degree; and Research dissertation / thesis.

Record all Supervised Practica hours and top-up of additional practicum hours by completing a *SRP Practicum Hours Computation Form with your application.

The additional practicum hours must be supervised by an SRP-Approved supervisor or SRP-Eligible supervisor. Please refer to SPS Directory for list of approved supervisors.

  • An overseas (i) Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree or (ii) Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree with an area of Specialization needs to have documentary evidence that it is accredited by a Psychological Professional Society and/or a Licensing or Registration body in the country/region in which the educational institution from which the degree was obtained operates.
  • All documents need to be certified true by Notary Public or Embassy: (i) Certificates (ii) Transcripts (iii) Licensure or Registration Document (iv) Any other supporting documents

The SRP registers practitioner psychologists with a Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree that qualifies them to practice as a Psychologist.

The SRP registers practitioner psychologists with a Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree that qualifies them to practice as an applied psychologist in an area of Specialization. i.e., Clinical, Counselling, Educational/School, Forensic, Clinical Health, Neuropsychology, Industrial-Organizational / Occupational, or Sports and Exercise Psychology.

Postgraduate Degrees in the following areas DO NOT MEET the requirements of the SRP:
1.Academic / Experimental / Research Psychology degrees (Completing these and topping up with practicum hours after the Academic Research Psychology degree does not meet SRP requirements).
2.Behavioural Analysis
3.Counselling
4.Counselling and Psychotherapy
5.Family Therapy
6. Marriage & Family Therapy
are currently no exceptions to this rule.

This is relevant for applicants who trained overseas and

  • Have completed their Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree overseas, with an area of Specialization
  • Have a valid licence/ registration to practise as a recognized professional psychologist in the country of training, i.e., including in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America or Canada, for area of specialization you trained & qualified in, i.e., Clinical, Counselling, Educational/School, Forensic, Health, Neuropsychology, Industrial-Organizational / Occupational, Sports and Exercise Psychology.
  • Provide a completed *SRP Practicum Hours Computation Form with Signature, Full Name, Designation and Date as Sign Off on *SRP Practicum Hours Computation Form when requested by secretariat@singaporepsychologicalsociety.org
  • Have documentary evidence to be registered / licensed to practise as recognized professional psychologist in the area of specialization you trained in, i.e., including in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America or Canada

For overseas applicants who meet criteria for SRP membership, you will need to demonstrate that you have English language competency and the requisite knowledge and skills to practise within the Singapore context. The latter can be verified through a period of supervision provided by SRP-Approved supervisors. Provide relevant documentary evidence when applying.

1. Do I need SRP registration to practise in Singapore?

No. The practice of psychology in Singapore is not regulated by the government. SPS is actively working towards the regulation of psychology as a profession. Practicing psychologists who are registered or licensed in other countries and locally, have chosen to voluntarily register with the SRP.  Doing so means that they have the required educational qualifications for the area of practice they deliver as a psychologist.

1. How do I verify my practicum hours? You can submit a certified true copy of your signed practicum log or a signed letter from your university supervisor detailing your supervision hours or a copy of your practice license or registration. The secretariat may request for you to record all Supervised Practica hours, and any top-up of additional practicum hours, by completing a *SRP Practicum Hours Computation Form with your application. The secretariat (secretariat@singaporepsychologicalsociety.org) could be contacted to get this Form. 2. Is the program I wish to apply for approved by SRP? The SRP does not pre-approve specific programs for SRP registration. Examine the program structure and curriculum to determine if it meets the criteria required for SRP registration. We recommend that you select a Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree program that would enable you to be eligible to apply for / to apply for registration to practice as a psychologist with or without an area of specialization, with the national regulatory body of the country from which you graduate from e.g., AHPRA (Australia); HCPC (United Kingdom); for those selecting a Postgraduate Applied Psychology Degree program in the USA, select one that enables eligibility to apply for / to get a licensure (post licensure examination) to practice as a psychologist with an area of specialization with a State Board of Psychology, in the country from which you graduate from, after completion of an APA Accredited Predoctoral Internship. 3. I graduated with a research degree and then completed 1000 hours of supervised practice on the job. Will I qualify? You require a postgraduate applied psychology degree that includes a supervised practice component during the programme, for programmes that train in specializations including Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. Programmes that train for specializations in Industrial Organizational Psychology and Sports Psychology may involve supervised practice after the completion of the postgraduate applied psychology degree, to enable eligibility for registration and licensure. 4. What if I completed my practitioner psychology degree outside of Singapore and it is not from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States? Can I still register with the SRP? Provide documentary evidence that the postgraduate applied psychology degree would enable eligibility for one to practice as a registered psychologist or recognized psychologist in the country in which the postgraudate applied psychology degree was completed. 5. What if I completed my practitioner psychology degree in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States but have not yet received or applied for licensure or registration in the country that the degree was completed? Provide documentary evidence that the postgraduate applied psychology degree would enable eligibility to apply for licensure or registration in the country that the degree was completed and complete the requirements of the registration organization to enhance your eligibility for application for licensure or registration in the country in which you trained in.
1. Professional development is necessary to ensure that SRP members maintain their capacity to practise safely and effectively, and to practise in line with the SPS Code of Ethics. 2. SRP members are required to engage in at least 60 points of PD activities in 2 years for continual registration as a member on the SRP Register as well as on the SRP Approved Supervisor Register. 3. There are THREE Categories of PD Activity as follows (*Please login to your personal dashboard for the details of ALL THREE categories): Category 1 – Receiving PD Training (Minimum of 30 PD points) Category 2 – Providing PD Training (Maximum of 20 PD points) Category 3 – Receiving Supervision (Minimum of 10 PD points) You can accumulate a total of 60 points from the above categories with respect to the Minimum / Maximum hours specified. Note: 1 PD hour is equivalent to 1 PD point. 4. Refer to Secretariat Update by Email to all SRP members on 13 July 2026 on <Updates on PD Log Submission for 2026 – 2027> for details and developments to facilitate your PD Log Submission. Enter your Dashboard for similar updates. 5. For the upcoming PD Log submission, you would be required to complete your submission, through your Personal Dashboard by 31 Dec 2027, latest. The system will not be able to accept submissions thereafter, ie. the “Submit” button will be deactivated on 1 Jan 2028. 6.Submissions from 1 Jan 2028 will be processed separately after payment of SGD $40 is made and received by the secretariat. 7.SRP members admitted in the calender year 2026, need only to submit their PD Log for calendar year of 2027 comprising a total of only 30 PD points from the listed categories, with a minimum of 15 PD points for Cat 1 and a minimum of 5 PD points for Cat 3. 8.Members who do not meet the PD Log requirements for ONE cycle of 2 years will be listed as “Conditional Status” in the SRP Directory. Members who do not meet the PD Log requirements for TWO cycles of 4 years will be delisted from the SRP Directory. When so, the SRP Membership and SRP Approved Supervisor Membership would become conditional or cease, respectively. 1. Why do Registered Psychologists need to get Professional Indemnity Insurance? 
 
Being a registered psychologist means that there is a higher expectation of you as a competent practitioner, which comes with the responsibility to protect the interest of the client. Having professional indemnity means that you have attained a certain professional standing and it protects you from being financially burdened by litigation proceedings, when your competence and professionalism are called in question despite every good effort you have made to do right by the client.
 
2. Can I buy Professional Indemnity Insurance if I am not a Registered Psychologist? 
 
Yes you may do so with other Insurance Companies. The SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance is applicable only to Registered Psychologists with the Singapore Psychological Society.
 
3. My company has a group policy for Professional Indemnity, is there still a need to buy the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance?
 
It depends if the group policy covers you for the work you do with the company only or beyond. Typically, it is the former. If so, you need not purchase. Should you require coverage beyond the work you do at the company, you may want to consider getting the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance for yourself.
 
4. If I were to purchase the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance, what would I be insured for?
 
You will be insured for the psychology services that you provide, including teleconsulting with no prescription of medicine. Jurisdiction of cover is worldwide excluding USA/ Canada.
 
5. What is the coverage under the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance plan?
 
The coverage may be reviewed from time-to-time depending on the prevailing needs. The current (2025) coverage are as follows:
(a) Limit of Indemnity: SGD $500,000 each and every claim and in the aggregate per psychologist
(b) Shared limit of Indemnity: SGD $5,000,000 for all psychologist

(c) Deductible: SGD $3,000 each and every claim

6. If I was interested in the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance, what is the premium and how long will the coverage be?
 
The SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity provides yearly insurance coverage beginning every calendar year. To refer to notification(s) from SPS on the details of enrolment(s) for the prevailing premium rates/ terms as they are reviewed by insurer on a yearly basis.
 
7. The SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance coverage and premium are attractive, what is the catch?
 
This SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance is meant to cater to SRP members’ needs. Members are able to enjoy low premiums because provisions have been made for concessionary rates to apply during onboarding. Members’ needs and interests are being evaluated for this. If members’ interests are low, premiums may increase the following year. Council may decide to terminate the policy if members’ uptake is low, as it suggests that members may not need it. Strong interest and partnership in this would be beneficial for all.
 
8. Why did we choose CHUBB Insurance?
 
CHUBB Insurance Singapore Limited, UEN: 199702449H, is the current
SRP SPS recommended Insurance Provider for professional indemnity insurance, as approved by the SPS Executive Council. The Council selected CHUBB Insurance based on its links with insurance underwriters with strong financial standing, its offer of a relevant and comprehensive insurance product, its demonstrated knowledge and experience of the psychology field, and its proven service delivery record.
 
9. Am I eligible to apply for the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance?
First and foremost, you need to be registered with SRP. This means you need to fulfil the SRP application criteria. Additionally, you need to ensure the following:
 
(a) No claims to date. Please note, anyone who has claims will be reviewed separately outside of this scheme.
(b) You are based in Singapore. Living and working in Singapore.
(c) At least 80% of your clients are based in Asia (Australia does not count as part of Asia).
(d) You adherence to MOH teleconsulting guide during teleconsulting sessions (https://www.moh.gov.sg/docs/librariesprovider5/resources-statistics/guidelines/moh-cir-06_2015_30jan15_telemedicine-guidelines-rev.pdf)
(e) IMPORTANT: Any members who fall outside of the above underwriting criteria and are enrolled despite not fulfilling the underwriting criteria will not be covered and no refund will be given.
 
10. When can I apply for the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance? Is there an enrolment period?
 
Applications are open in Q4 of each year for the yearly coverage starting in January in the following year. Members who are interested must reach out to our Secretariat providing your name and membership number before December. Members must make full payment to Secretariat along with your name and membership number. Premium rate will be advised accordingly based on renewal terms. 11. Who has the right to make any changes to the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance and its adminstration?
 

The Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) reserves the right to make executive decisions on all matters relating to the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance, in consultation with relevant stakeholders to ensure all concerned parties’ interests are met. Any decision made is final.

 
12. Do you provide support for personal indemnity insurance?
 

We cannot provide individual support to members for personal indemnity insurance, especially if it is outside the ambit of the SPS-CHUBB Group Professional Indemnity Insurance scheme for SRP members. Thank you for your kind understanding.

13. What should I do if there is potential claim(s) that may arise?

To write in to SPS at secretariat@singaporepsychologicalsociety.org  so that we can inform insurer on the next course of action required.
 
14. Can I settle a claim privately with the claimant without the insurer’s consent?
 

Under certain circumstances, a settlement may be a better solution due to the time and expense required in any protracted litigation. However, even if there is a settlement offer available, this must be communicated and agreed with CHUBB. It is always prudent to advise the Secretariat, the appointed Intermediary and the Insurer before you settle a claim.

15. Can I approach a law firm of my choice without the Insurer’s consent?
 
Most insurers have a panel of reputable law firms that they work with. The Insurer’s claims team will be able to advise which law firms that you can turn to for legal advice.

  1. Can SRP provide a letter of good standing for me to register with overseas organisations?
    SPS is able to provide a letter stating the type and duration of your membership with SPS, SRP and as an Approved Supervisor. Criteria for registration and renewal will be reflected in the letter. An administrative fee of $40 will be applied for such a request.
  2. Professional Liability
    Registered Psychologists are solely responsible for their own professional liability arising from any litigation related to their psychological practice. The SPS (including the Council) shall not be held liable for any litigation brought against any of the Registered Psychologists or SPS Members arising from their professional negligence or malpractice.
